Props play an important part in portraying the genre and theme of the film; also telling the audience about the characters in the films. Having the right props makes a difference on the effect on the audience. This is why I need to think carefully about the type of props I use and to make sure that they fit in with the characters, location and the plot of the film.
The props that I need are meanly things to create verisimilitude with in the setting, using things such as back packs as this will show the location, but for each character the type of prop will need to be changed. With the back pack or school bag both Lilly and Emma will need to have one each, but they need to be different clearly showing the audience the type of character they are. With Lilly she will need a practical bag and one that dose not fit in with the style of the audience, showing to the target audience that she cares more about her work then what she looks like. Where as Emma’s bag would need to fit in more with my target audience, using things that fit in with the style of the target audience will make the film appeal to them, giving me a wider audience. Which means that when coming up with my props I need to think about the effect it will have on the audience and that it will appeal too them also creating the right image of the character. I will need to do this for each prop.
In the opening scene Lilly is sat doing her work, which means that I will need to clearly show this to the audience by having some work around her, this work will need to show the type of character she is, this means that I will need different folders, books and pieces of paper around her showing to the audience how her work is more important to her. Along with this she will have her pencil case with her, this will be full of different pens, pencils, rules ect. Putting all these different things in it will show the type of character she is. The style of the pencil case will match in with the bag and her character, this showing the audience the type of character she really is.
The character of Emma has fewer props in the scene but when filming I need to think about what props can be seen in the shot. Also when I am film I need to make sure that I have got all the props that I will need to have to make the scene appeal to the audience and create verisimilitude, helping the opening to flow better.
