Looking back at your perliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it ot the full product?

With my preliminary task my skills and knowledge were limited. I have been able to develop these skills through different means such as with my researching and planing, with my preliminary I did little planing and researching which can been seen in my film being that I rushed it where as with my main task I had done more in depth researching and planing which meant that I was able to create a product that appealed to the audience better in the ways that I used mise-en-scene and in how I appealed to the audience. One of the main skills I felt that I was able to developed was my editing and I felt that in the main task I was able to put across the right meaning and issues to the audience. Where as in my preliminary task I was not able to achieve this and I had learnt different skills such as with the music in the preliminary I was unable to add music and this time I was able to put in music. I have also learnt how to fade in and out the music. Being able to have better editing skills allowed me to create an opening it appealed to the audience and fitted in with the genre and other films aimed at a silmar audience.

This shot was from my preliminary film and was not framed well, in that it cuts the characters head off. This shot stops the audience being able to connect with the character. Also this shot lasted to long making the film became boring and losing the audience attention to what is happening. The costume used also dose not tell the audience anything about the type of character she is. This is also the same with the location in that it does not fit in with the action in the scene.
Where as in the next shot from my main film the audience is able to connect with the character being that they are able to have eye contact with the character. Using a mid close up allows the audience to see the characters reaction to what is happening in the scene. The costume used helps the audience to have an understanding of the character being that she is in a dark outfit which allows the audience to understand who she is. The location used in the main film reflects the characters and the situation. Filming the scene in a school means that the audience are able to connect with the characters and have an understanding as to what is happening. This location also fits in with other teen films, allowing my film to appeal to the audience.

Creating a preliminary film helped me to work out which areas I needed to work closely on such as the editing being that when editing the preliminary I found I was unable to achieve the effects that I wanted to create but when editing the main film I found I was able to create better effects with the music and transitions, this was as I was using a different programme in which I know how to work it better. Along with this I used a different video camera when filming which I felt was better quality allowing me to create a more professional looking film than before. Because of the research and planing I did before going out and filming I was able to create the shots and have the right type of mise-en-scene than when I was doing my preliminary film being that with the preliminary film I had done less planing which meant that I did not achieve the right location, costumes and other mise-en-scene elements that I was able to put across well in my main film.

To improve further consider using still images from your productions to illustrate your discussion of the progression of your skills. Give examples of editing techniques you used. Explain why your film would be suited to the institutions you discuss.
