Questionnair results

From the questionnaire I produced there were more females than males that completed it. With 85% being female and only 14% male, thought this is I feel is important as my film will be more aimed at a female audience. This is also shown though the age that answered the questionnaire which was between the ages 16-18. Which is the age group that I will be targeting my film at and the type of film genre I was finding out about was aimed at this age. From gaining this the gender and age I was able to know that my target audience demographic data would be E and D being that there are students and are unlikely to have a skilled job. Knowing this information’s about who my target audience will help me to create a successful film being that I know who my audience is and I will be able to target them.

I wanted to know what genre of films most people go and see so that I know if the genre that I had chosen would appeal to my audience and what other elements I can put in my film to make it appeal to a wider audience and then by doing this making the film more money. Here you can see the results, I was able to see what type of film my audience would go and see my film, from knowing this it gives me an idea as to what I need to include to my film to make it appeal to a wider audience. Romance came as the biggest genre with 64.3% this show that my target audience are interested in this genre and I will need to put in elements that will fit in which this genre to appeal to them. Where as with sic-fi I only had 7.1% which shows that I don’t want to put things it like this as most of my audience will not find it appealing. Knowing what type of genre my target audience watches will help me to produce a successful product as I will be able to make a film that will fit in with the genre that my target audience will watch.

I wanted to know how often my audience went to the cinema, from knowing this it would help me to know how I need to make my film stand out from other films so that my audience will go and see it. This also helps me to know the demographic date knowing how much money and time that they have to go to the cinema. It also gives me an understanding as to if my target audience do go to the cinema. Knowing this is important as it tells me that the audience I plan to target is right for they do go to the cinema and will go and watch my film. This is a key thing to know in making a successful product as if the demand for my product is not their then it will not be successful.

Next I wanted to find out what makes a film appeal to my target audience. I felt that this was key find out as it would help me to know what I would need to put in my film to make it a successful film and for it to appeal to my target audience. From the question, most people were interested in a film if it had a good storyline and plot with 6 people wanting this. This is something that I felt is important in making a film and will be something that I will ask about in the focus group making sure that my plot will appeal to them and stand out from other storylines. The next two important things that the audience felt was important were the actor and actress in the film. Knowing this I will think about which actors that would appeal to my target audience and how they would fit in with my storyline. Though with my product I will not be able to use famous actors but if I could this would be something I would use to appeal to my target audience and then making a successful film. Other points that was said would make the film appeal to them was the genre of the film and with this some people said which genre made the film appealing to them comedy, romance and it being action packed. Knowing this information I will be able to make sure that my film uses these things to make it appeal to them and be a successful product.

To help produce a successful product I wanted to know what their favourite teen film was, as knowing this I would be able to use them as a market follower and use elements from these films to make sure that my film appeals to the target audience. One of the films that was menchened a lot was ‘Mean girls’ they said that this was because it has a good storyline and has both comedy and romance in it. Knowing this helps me as I can put these elements in my film making it become a successful film and appeal to my audience. Other films that they liked because of the actors in the film knowing this shows how important the choice of actors is in make a successful film.

To know if I had chosen the right genre I asked if they watch the genre. Here you can see that most people do which is good as it means that there is an audience for my film with 71.4% saying yes and only 28.6% saying no. Knowing this means that their will be an audience for my film making it a successful product.


The next question I asked was to help me come up with the storyline and find out what convention. Though in this I spelled this wrong in my question which means that the answers I got back were not what I was hoping for. This is something that I need to watch when doing other questionnaires. From the answers I found out elements that I would be able to put into the plot, for example relationship between friends and girlfriends and boyfriends. Knowing that this type of storyline would appeal to my audience it will help me to make a successful film, as I will be able to put this in to my plot. Others were about the age of the characters and the location, which is found to be the same in most teen films, knowing that this also appeals to the audience I will be able to use this when making my film and it will appeal to the audience. Putting this convention will make a successful product as these two conventions will allow the audience to connect to the characters better.

So that I could make the best film I want to know what sub genre would fit in best with the genre I plan on making. Here you can see which got the most votes which is also shown thought the other answers. With romance getting 67.1% of the votes and then comedy getting 42.9% of the votes. Knowing this will help me to make a successful film being able to use different elements from other films, making it appeal to a wider audience, making the film more money.
